Professor Andrew Torget’s Seeds of Empire: Cotton, Slavery, and the Transformation of the Texas Borderlands, 1800–1850 is Getting Rave Reviews

Andrew Torget, Associate Professor in the Department of History has been getting rave reviews for his recent book, Seeds of Empire: Cotton, Slavery, and the Transformation of the Texas Borderlands, 1800–1850. Among its many accolades it has won the Texas State Historical Association’s Coral Horton Tullis Memorial Prize for Best Book on Texas History as well as the Western Historical Association’s David J. Weber-Clements Center Prize for Best Non-Fiction Book on Southwestern America. Texas Monthly describes it as “the most nuanced and authoritative rewriting of Texas’s origin myth to date.”
